Canberra


Driving back from Sydney to Melbourne can be done via Canberra, Australia's Capital. Wikipedia states that it is 280 km (170 mi) south-west of Sydney, and 650 km (400 mi) north-east of Melbourne, purposely built in 1908 as a compromise between these two rival cities who are both eyeing to be the nation's capital. A quick stopover turned out to be quite longer due to an ongoing fair (the Floriade, Australia's biggest flower festival) and this year's theme showcased films in an elegant collection of flowerbeds. There were food stalls and homemade products like what you would get in Sunday markets - a lot of stuff that would make you want to burst open your purse and go on a shopping spree.
